Surrounding Sounds: A Field Recording Workshop
May
10
How can we use ‘listening’ as a tool to consider the ways in which sound impacts our environment? Artist Huijun Lu invites you to capture field recordings of noise in and around Battlebox, a bunker nestled within Fort Canning Park.
Open to young explorers age 11-18 years old! The workshop aims to motivate you to take in and become aware of the sounds you hear in their immediate surroundings. Within these 2 hours, you will also be introduced to the practice of Deep Listening and how artists create and utilise field recordings in their works. This workshop is a programme complementary to Portals, an innovative visual arts exhibition that bridges Singapore's wartime history with creative technology at the Battlebox. This workshop and Portals are programmes of cmd.exe ("command prompt"), supported by the National Arts Council and the Tote Board Arts Fund.
